Daily Note: June 2, 2009

In case you live in Seattle and were thinking of having a baby, here's some food for thought:

Fulltime childcare at my (non profit) company is over $1,700 per month and the waitlist is about 10 months. This is apparently normal for Seattle.

I'm speechless. We started our search about two months ago and were priced out of the town we live in. David's job is about 25 minutes away and thank goodness because we were able to find a place there that fit our price range. I thought we were pushing it at $600 month. What are your plans - I can't believe that's the price at a non-profit place! Sending out some good childcare vibes and hopes that you come across something that works for you soon! We couldn't believe the wait lists in our town - 3 to 8 months. But 10 months - that's ridiculous.

I think that they are also on the pricey side, but you might look in to Bright Horizons. They are a really great company (I was hired by them as a teacher when I thought I was moving back to Seattle...long story...) and I was really impressed with them. They have many locations - one of which is down at University Village. Good luck! You'll find the right place.

If I don't have a job by the time you go back to work, I will move in and take care of Edie and charge you way less. I'm sure Katherine's offered to do the same.
